Students will learn how to write clean, compelling prose, whether about people or places, science and technology, business, sports, the arts, or family history.
Content Goals:
To develop confidence in one's own voice to communicate with employers and others
To learn to write and then rewrite
To learn to recognize "parts" within oneself that may interfere with writing: critical parts, hopeless parts, etc
Writing effective proposals, resumes, thank you notes
To identify nonfiction writing that appeals to the individual student
To have read and discussed "On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction" by William Zinsser (Collins | 30th Anniversary Edition)
To write outlines and multiple drafts of short pieces, resulting in one finished piece
