What Are Cookies? Objective:
Students should be able to critically think about equity issues contributing to the digital participation gap and provide possible solutions.
Other Information:
Setting: A group of 7 college freshmen, all in their first year at Webster. It is likely that many students have not heard of the digital participation gap. There is a Smart Board and projector available to use and the seating is arranged to encourage conversation.
Description of learners: Students will all be expected to present a mini lesson around the same time as this lesson, so they will likely be feeling anxious. 2 of the 7 students have at least been introduced to the topic, but the rest may not have. A few students have mentioned anxiety and an overwhelming desire to please others. All students have used a laptop or tablet during past classes. Two of the seven students have used Nearpod previously, although the rest do not seem to know what it is.
Differentiation: Nearpod presentation allows students to interact on their own devices which they are already comfortable with. They can screenshot important slides as well. Handouts are provided via Nearpod and a hardcopy. Since some students have anxiety, student names will be hidden.
