The ultimate goal of this unit is to have the students understand what the elements of fiction are in pieces of literature. Furthermore, the students must be interactive with the work that is provided so that they are engaged in their learning.

Understandings:
Students should understand what make up the different elements of fiction such as plot, setting, characters, points of view, genre, literary forms, theme, and style. With each lesson, the students should be able to grasp each of these concepts and have a greater understanding of why these elements are important for future learning.
Content Goals:
At the end of this unit, the students should know the elements of fiction and why it is important for them to learn. Fictional literacy is very popular with students so the more that they can understand the little pieces of it, the better they can grasp the bigger picture.
Skill Goals:
Students will be able to read a fiction book and identify the type of character, point of view, genre, theme, style, setting, plot, and what type of literary form it is.
