Students will gain the overall basic knowledge needed to care for patients with urinary elimination needs, using the nursing process to identify, describe, and prioritize information related to urinary elimination needs, including describing medications related to the urinary needs of adult patients. They will learn prevention strategies related to the urinary elimination needs of adult med-surg patients. They will also learn teaching strategies and communication techniques to use when caring for the adult med-surg patient with urinary elimination needs.

1. What are the physical and emotional consequences of failure of the urinary system?
2. Why are lower urinary tract infections significant? How are urinary tract infections diagnosed? How do sociocultural and psychologic factors influence urination?
