CURRICULUM: Based on ODE English/Language Arts Content Standards; Expanded to include mapping from the Common Core Curriculum Maps for English Language Arts, Grades 9-12; Incorporating Rigorous Lessons from NMSI and LTF

INSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSE: To develop and hone critical thinking and analysis skills; To prepare students for entrance into either Grade Level 11 English or one of the English AP classes, as well as the preparation to successfully complete standardized and advanced testing; To train students for college and/or career readiness

DIAGNOSTIC and SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: Students in this class will be exposed to a wide range of both Grade Level and High- Level English skills. A few of the Grade Level skills (those determined by the FHS English department) will be assessed diagnostically and summatively through the formal district-approved SLO tests. The rest of the Grade-Level skills and the High-Level skills to which the students will be exposed will be assessed through test models provided by NMSI and LTF.

On a side note, however, despite some of these students having taken FHS Grade 9 Honors, much of the presumed scaffolded FHS curriculum and the incorporated NMSI/LTF Grade 10 Honors curriculum and materials used in this class are foreign to them. Often assessing their background knowledge requires only a simple "Have you ever heard of ______?" or "Did your English teachers ever teach or explain ____________ to you?"
