Students will learn poetic analysis in preparation for an analysis paper on Langston Hughes poems "Theme for English B" and "A Dream Deferred".

Students will apply knowledge of the poems using both poetic techniques and figurative language along with historical information about the Harlem Renaissance and the March on Washinton/Civil Rights.

Students will learn to write a working thesis, support the thesis through quotes and understanding of the author's purpose in writing.

Students will read a selection of non-fiction, historical background pieces to support the time period of the author's life that are reflected in the selected poems.
