Goal Summary:
The student will decode and encode words with consonant blends (emphasis on l and r blends). Student will use his/her phonemic awareness strategies (rhyme, segmenting, isolation, deletion, substitution, and blending) with phonemes and graphemes to both read unfamiliar text (words in isolation and in context) and spell unfamiliar words. Most words will consist of a CCVC pattern, but other patterns will be included. Student will use decoding and encoding skills to create tongue twisters featuring words with consonant blends.
Student will continue to add words with beginning blends to the Twenty Twinkling Twisters word wall. Words will be categorized according to beginning sound and once a word is on the wall, it cannot be added again. Student will identify and use nouns, verbs, and modifiers correctly when writing original tongue twister. Student will follow sentence writing conventions appropriate for first grade.
