Constitution Day Social Studies Research and Collage
Objective:
The students will discuss the role the constitution plays in their lives as citizens of the United States. They will be able to name the three branches of government and identify the simple purpose of each branch.
Other Information:
The student s will work in rotations and stations to complete several tasks to gather information and produce end results showing their understanding of the role the constitution plays in their lives and identifying the branches of the government.
Prep:
The day prior to these activities the students have viewed and discussed, The Constitution and Constitution Day A Beginners Guide, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEy4sg2-kp4, a video on youtube and taken the quiz attached to the video as a whole class with discussion. In pairs the students discussed what they thought the constitution meant to them as a U.S. citizen. As individuals, the students recorded three topics related to the constitution they would like to further research. These papers were collected and will be returned for the students to use as guides the next lesson.
The students have previously also had a reading of the book, We the Kids, a look at the Preamble of the Constitution; with a whole class discussion.
Materials:
We the Kids literature book of the Preamble to the Constitution.
