Objective:
Students will write an opinion piece and include the following information: topic sentence stating their opinion, 3 supporting details, and a concluding sentence, restating their opinion. Students will also summarize their learning at the end of the lesson, by writing one thing they need when writing an opinion piece.
Prep:
Students will have already listened to the text, "Hey, Little Ant", prior to this lesson. We will review and refer to the story. This will be another opportunity for students to state and write about their opinion. Students have practiced opinion writing a few times prior to this lesson. They have written their opinion about Leprechauns, Spring Break, and also responding to the text, "Duck!" "Rabbit!" The prior lessons were guided and modeled for students.
Materials:
For teacher: The book, "Hey, Little Ant", chart paper, markers, ant die cuts, white colored pencils, rubric, plastic diamond rings, golden tickets and the website http://heylittleant.wordpress.com/music/. For students: Writer's Workshop folder, pencils, "Hey, Little Ant" response paper, crayons, and colored pencils
