GO MATH ADDING AND SUBTRACTING DECIMAL NUMBERS

Grade Level:
6
Subject:
Math
Topic:
Go Math Adding and Subtracting Decimal Numbers
Objective:
Students will be able to add and subtract decimal numbers by using place values and align their numbers according to their values.
Other Information:
Example: when adding whole numbers 12 and 25 the sum is equal to 37.
The same practice applies to decimal numbers, with the exception of the decimal point placement according to place values greater than and less than any whole numbers. Therefore adding 1.2 (one and two tenths) and 2.5 (two and five tenths) is equal to 3.7 (three and seven tenths.)

standards:

Math.6.NS.2 Fluently divide multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm.
Math.6.NS.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.
Math.6.NS.4 Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2).
Prep:
