"Stressed Out Sally": How does one cope with life-changing events?

Objective:
1) Students will discuss with a partner the struggles of a fictional character in a story by writing down at least 3 problems Sally had and writing down what she had control of in a t-chart.
2) Each student will discuss at least 1 idea regarding personal responsibility/safety and at least 1 idea regarding the importance of conflict resolution ideas in small groups.
3) Students will write down at least 3 new solutions Sally could have done differently for her problems so that her day could have been better.
4) Students will create a narrated PowerPoint with at least 5 slides (to publish into a video) describing what happened in the story by including the ideas the students wrote down in previous activities

Prep:
Teachers may start off with a class discussion on the questions of:
Why does life change? What if everything always stayed the same?

Teachers may also give out lined paper so that students may write down any ideas they may think of during their listening of the story, in conversations, or before their assessment.

Teachers must know how to create a narrated PowerPoint and how to publish it in a video. Teachers will briefly teach their students how they can do this for their assessment.
Materials:
Story –“Stressed Out Sally”–One copy for each student
Lined paper, t-chart, pencils and markers or highlighters
Computer with a mic to record voice
