Objective:
Students should be able to visualize/imagine what is happening at the molecular level as a skewer is passed through the latex balloon. The ability to think about atoms, elements and compounds at the particle level is a key understanding to obtain across the intermediate and senior science curricula.
Prep:
Teacher should spread out the groups around the room and form the groups randomly by assigning a playing card to each student (same numbers go together).
Materials:
10-15 balloons, 10 metal skewers, oil to lubricate the skewers, 10 vertical non-permanent surfaces (VNPS) and markers to write with
