Objective:
The purpose of this lesson is to define what it means to perform a dissection, describe the steps required in completing a fetal dissection, identify different structures within the fetal pig's body, and compare fetal pig and human body structures. Students will have the opportunity to learn proper laboratory technique and etiquette when it comes to performing dissection.
Prep:
Pre-lab Handout, Vocabulary words handout, handout showing how to determine the sex of the fetal pig, handout with pictures of how to cut the fetal pig and how to get to the internal organs, and handout with instructions on what to identify outside and inside the fetal pig's body
Materials:
Preserved fetal pig, dissecting pan, scissors, scalpel, forceps, probe, and twine.
