What Are Cookies? Objective:
This lesson would be ideal to use after a national disaster, such as the attack on the World Trade Centre or the recent Las Vegas shooting incident. However, it could also be used as a 'regular' lesson in this unit, with a less somber tone.
Ideally, the students would have some background knowledge of how body systems interact (i.e. oxygen from the respiratory system and nutrients from digestive system are transported by the circulatory system to other areas of the body; waste is transported via circulatory system to the digestive system and out of the body, etc.). This lesson will introduce the impact on the body when it experiences immense stress or grief. Students will investigate how emotions can by translated into physical responses due to the interactions of body systems. If not previously covered, students will also be introduced to the nervous system and how it can impact other body systems.
