My New Lesson

Grade Level:
9
Subject:
Ecosystems
Topic:
A trip to a wildlife preserve
Objective:
Expectations:
B1. analyse the impact of human activity on terrestrial or aquatic ecosystems, and assess the effectiveness of selected initiatives related to environmental sustainability
B1.2 assess the effectiveness of a local initiative of personal interest that seeks to ensure the sustainability of a terrestrial or aquatic ecosystem
Public Notes:
The hard part about this lesson will be timing and planning.

Timing:
Firstly if the class is in the fall term, this plan might be better, since you can go to a wildlife area still, but if you are teaching this second term, it might be more difficult with how winter can complicate things, although you might still be able to do something fun. Also due to logistics it might be beneficial to do this when there are many sections of grade 9 science running. If there are is only 1 section than the costs would be prohibitive but if there are 5 classes than the costs can be split.

There is a lot of planning too, here are some of the steps I can think of as a newbie teacher that would need to be done before hand:
1) Ask students if there is demand
2) Get principles OK and funding if possible
3) Call the place and see if they can accommodate us
4) Get students to bring in money and signatures
5) Book Everything from buses, to tickets, to lunches if they need it
6) make sure you can thought of what to do in case of an emergency
7)Finally while the students are on the trip we have to make sure that the content is engaging and useful for them
Prep:
A massive amount of planning and aforethought
Materials:
None entered.
