Watch where you step: how our ecological footprint is draining natural resources and what we can do to tread a little lighter

Grade Level:
12
Subject:
Grade 12 Biology, Population Dynamics
Topic:
Population growth and ecological footprint
Objective:
Students will calculate their ecological footprint and understand its implications for planet Earth's longevity. Students will connect this to their understanding of population growth & carrying capacity, and come up realistic changes that they and their peers can make in their daily lives to reduce their footprint.
Prep:
Book computer lab or Chromebooks for student use. Have global human population growth statistics and graphs to show students. Have a few suggested ecological footprint generators listed for students to use.
Materials:
Laptops/internet access. For poster project ask students to bring in most materials (probably for a later class) and supply glue, tape, scissors, rulers, markers, etc.
