Nature as a resource for human consumption

Grade Level:
9
Subject:
Science
Topic:
B. BIOLOGY: SUSTAINABLE ECOSYSTEMS AND HUMAN ACTIVITY
Objective:
The goal of this lesson is to teach grade 9 (applied) students about the devastating effect of human activity on the environment. Through this lesson they will learn the basic knowledge related to sustainable ecosystems and how to identify with nature. By the end of the lesson they should have a strong idea about their ecological identity and they must be able to differentiate between the healthy of nature as a necessity of our existence and the popular (and much more selfish) view that nature is simply a resource for human consumption.
Prep:
Take the necessary permission from the principal and the students' parents/guardians. Arrange for necessary accommodations based on students needs (wheelchair access, speech impairment, support assistant for students with learning/mental disabilities). Research the natural area well in-advance, arrange for specialist to join the trip and deliver an informative talk.
Materials:
Most likely transportation such as a school bus.
