Objective:
Lesson Objective(s):
Students will participate in a fifteen day lesson plan that will consist of students learning/mastering the skills of expository writing, using text structure and parts of the 6+1 Traits writing model.

Upon completion of day one through day fifteen studies of Text Structure and 6+1 Traits students will demonstrate their understanding of these skills. (Masoueh, A., Faramarz, A. M. & Arshad, A. S. 2016)

Upon completion of lesson:
  i. Students will apply comprehension strategies to expository texts using Text Structure to produce a clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
ii. Students will formulate multiple paragraph pieces that focus on a specific purpose or audience
iii. Students will distinguish the difference in sequential order, fact and opinion, cause and effect, author’s purpose, inferences, and comparing and contrasting using these strategies to produce clear and coherent writing

Students will write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. Students will produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Students will use technology, the internet, collaboration with others, and graphic organizers to help organize, edit and clarify text. Students will demonstrate developed and strengthened writing by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. Students will brainstorm and write a central idea that will explain the importance of expository writing. (MDE 2014) and (crosswalk-between-6+1-traits-and-ccss-writing-and-language-standards).


Assessment: Students will demonstrate their understanding of expository text structure (comparison/contrast, cause/effect, sequence of events, problem/ solution, and description/list) They will read an article and find the correct expository text structure used. They will complete the appropriate graphic organizer for the text structure. Students will demonstrate understanding of 6+1 Traits by writing an Expository Essay, on article used for Text Structure, using 6+1 traits learned during instruction. Teacher will know students have mastered the skills taught by grading according to the rubric provided below.
