Writing a Letter
Assessment- Autobiography
Objective:
Students will be able to:
- Identify the author's purpose.
- Analyze figurative language.
- Understand the stages of plot.
- Understand point of view.
- Infer what the author directly states or implies.
- Identify the different parts of a letter.
- Understand the differences between a friendly letter and a business letter.
Reflection:
- Students reviewed "Knots in My Yo-yo String" by Jerry Spinelli. After revisiting and reviewing this nonfiction piece, I feel the students have a better grasp of the storyline, plot, and point of view.

- Introduced letter-writing and the students seemed fairly excited about getting to choose their own topic for their business letters. Anytime I can allow for student choice with writing prompts, the students seem to responds better to that.
