Arthur Writes a Story Pt. 1

Grade Level:
1
Subject:
Language Arts
Topic:
We've been studying the characters Arthur and his sister D.W. through two types of media: videos and books. This lesson will give the students an opportunity to figure out the beginning, the middle and the end of a story.
Objective:
I can use words and pictures to help me tell about the characters, setting and plot. RL.1.7
Other Information:
The first grade is covering story structure so we will concentrate on how a story has a beginning, a middle and and end. Arthur's teacher wants his story to have these three parts. I will ask them to tell me these three story parts after viewing the story in book format.
Reflection:
This lesson was presented the week of 9/23/13. After reflection, I went back and broke it into two lessons and dropped having them watch the video that corresponded with the story. (By both watching the video and reading the story, the students had no time to express the three parts of a story through a fold out. (This is now added to Pt. 2.) The lesson below is revised to how it should have been.
