Sophomore Technique-Ballet

Grade Level:
10
Subject:
Dance
Topic:
Ballet Technique Unit
Objective:
Students will perform a structured ballet barre and an adagio, building open previous skills to include pirouettes en dedans, pirouettes en dehors and pique turns.
Prep:
Assessment 1:
Students will work in trios to do peer evaluations on pirouettes. They will speak to their group members using correct terminology and assess strengths and weakness in executing pirouettes.
One student will perform while the other two watch and they will take notes and give feedback on how to better execute their pirouette. Person one will go again, and notes will be taken to see if they 'took the corrections.' The other two group members will take a turn in the same manner.

Assessment 2:
Students will perform in groups of 4-5 for individual grades. The teacher will be evaluating 4 components:
Do they know the choreography?
Is it executed with the correct timing?
Is it executed with correct anatomical technique?
Do they perform the piece with appropriate dynamics?
Each dancer will perform twice, and the average of the two performances will determine the final assessment grade.
