7th Grade - August 10-14, 2015

Grade Level:
7
Subject:
Language Arts
Topic:
Introduction to Grammar
Objective:
Students will be able to:
- Identify the four sentence types.
- Differentiate between a phrase and a clause.
- Identify and correct run-on sentences and sentence fragments.
Reflection:
Students were able to quickly understand and differ between the four sentence types. I believed it helped when we broke their labels down to better understand the meaning of each type. (Example: Interrogative Sentences - take out the word "interrogate" which means "to question".)
Students had the hardest time with identifying phrases and clauses. They may struggle with understanding nouns and verbs, which play a strong role in whether or not what is given is a clause or a phrase. One contains both while the other is applied to one or the other.
