Objective:
To explore the use of indirect evidence to draw scientific conclusions. Students must use models based on previous knowledge to construct an argument supporting their hypothesis.
Other Information:
Students are never allowed to open the boxes or be told what the contents are. This mimics the need for scientists to continue to gather knowledge through continues experimentation in an effort to gain more information that could lead to changes in a theory.
Prep:
Prepare one box for every two students with trinkets and odds or end in each. the number and types of items do not have to be the same for each box. Seal each box with hot glue and number the lids.
Materials:
Small cardboard boxes
various items to place in the boxes
hot glue and hot glue gun
