An Introduction to Transcendentalism

To introduce the students to a movement in Literature known as Transcendentalism by connecting it to today's culture and society.
Objective:
The students should be able to compare and contrast the literature from two writers from the transcendental movement or period and find it's relevance to today's literature. The students will also be able to comprehend and understand the complexity of the material covered with the use of scaffolding.

CCSS:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.9 Compare and contrast a fictional portrayal of a time, place, or character and a historical account of the same period as a means of understanding how authors of fiction use or alter history.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
