What Are Cookies? Cookies are tiny pieces of information that your browser adds to a special folder on your computer to let certain websites recognize you as you move from page to page within the website, most commonly used to remember login or shopping cart info. The Lesson Builder uses a session cookie to remember you as you browse the website, so that new lessons you create are added to your library and so that your searches can differentiate between your lessons and other teachers' lessons. You can still view lessons without cookies enabled. A small percent of web users choose to disable cookies since some cookies (especially third-party cookies) are used by advertisers to track browsing behavior on other websites. The Lesson Builder doesn't do that.
How Can I Enable First Party Cookies? It varies from browser to browser. Look for an 'options', 'settings', or 'tools' selection on your browser, or perform a web search for how to do it for your specific browser. You can choose to enable all cookies, enable only first party cookies, or add an exception to allow cookies from thelessonbuilder.org.
How Can I Know It's Fixed? When you think you have enabled cookies for this site, refresh the page and this message should disappear. If you still see this message after refreshing the page, cookies are still disabled for this site.

Grade Level:
K
Subject:
Language Arts
Topic:
Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse
Objective:
I can tell the characters, setting and what happens in a story. RL.K.3
I can tell who the author and illustrator are. I can tell what their jobs
are. RL.K.6
Other Information:
This lesson correlates with the Kindergarten teachers' teaching rules and procedures during the first few weeks of school.
Differentiation: Most of the students are non-readers but it is hoped that some can read the basic 5 question words, Who, What, When, Where and How. The students will respond orally using their memory of the story and illustrations for support. Some advanced students might be able to read some of the text.

Reflection:
This lesson was presented the week of 9/17 -9/20 and I made changes after the first time presenting it. Originally I wanted to let the tables discuss one area each (Who, What, etc.) and then come together as a large group to share the results. The story was too long however, so we discussed the five question words in a large group activity instead. I'll just need to revisit this in future lessons in order to give opportunity for small group interaction.
Prep:
Gather materials listed below:
Materials:
Lily's Purple Plastic Purse, document camera, Who What When Where paper (you still need to attach this from your school desktop), and graphic organizer and "I Can" attachment.
