Next, students will begin the unit on poetry. Students will identify various themes in the poem, "I Hear American Singing." They will learn about the technique cataloging and evaluate how the author, Walt Whitman, uses this technique to honor the working class. Students will also evaluate Whitman's style and make conclusions about his values.
