Characterization is a technique authors use to reveal qualities about a character in a story. Students will understand how an author develops characters by first distinguishing indirect and direct characterization. They will write about various characters using each technique. Students will apply this knowledge to analyze how writer, O'Henry, uses characterization to tell the tale of "One Thousand Dollars."
