My New Lesson

Grade Level:
4
Subject:
Language Arts
Topic:
My Librarian is a Camel
Objective:
At the end of this unit of study, students should know how determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details. The students should actively participate in answering constructed response prompts, using facts and details to support from all mediums (text, video, etc.). The students should know how to use evidence from the texts to support their answers. The student should know how to describe the overall structure of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text. The student should consult reference materials, both print and digital. The student should also solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations. Within any type of text, being able to determine the main idea and organizational structure of a text will always be beneficial. The main idea tells what the text is mostly about, therefore giving students a gist of what is going on. The organizational structure well help students determine the way in which the information is being presented and how the writer is presenting specific information. Using evidence, facts, and details to any response makes the response more credible. Connecting these facts and details to a discussion with peers shows the strength of the response. Being able to use reference materials will follow students into their adult lives. Reference materials are always available for students to receive information about topics that they may or may not have prior knowledge of. Connecting math to literacy presents the idea that reading is in every subject. It gives students the opportunity to bring literacy across the curriculum.
