My New Lesson

Grade Level:
5
Subject:
Physical Education
Topic:
Nutrition
Objective:
Student should be able to correctly identify which category (carbohydrates, fats, or proteins) different foods belong in.

Students will be able to work together responsibly and cooperatively in small groups during physical activities.

Student should be able to explain proper nutrition in relation to food choices and physical activity.
Prep:
Make enough posters to provide one for each group of 3-4 students. Posters should be divided into three sections, each labeled "Carbohydrate,""Fat," or "Protein." Leave enough space in each section for students to attach three food pictures. Locate (cut from magazines) approximately 100 pictures of foods, that students can use to attach to their posters. Ensure that there are at least 10 for each category per team.

Before the class period, tape the posters on the wall at one end of the gym and scatter the food pictures at the opposite end of the gym.
Materials:
Food category posters, food pictures, and notebook to write observations in.
